GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS & APPLICATION OVERVIEW

Print Print this page

Alkaline-MnO2: Popular, multi-use premium battery; good low temperature and high rate performance; good shelf life; sloping discharge characteristics.
Uses: General purpose, e.g., palmtop computers, lighting, photographic equipment, toys, communication equipment, radio and television, tape recorders and instruments. Popular for high drain applications.
Lithium/MnO2: High energy density; excellent rate capability and low temperature performance; excellent shelf life; relatively flat discharge characteristic.
Uses: General purpose in photographic and electronic applications requiring small, high power batteries, e.g., security transmitters, smoke alarms, computer peripherals, communications equipment, cameras, personal organizers, memory backup, lighting.
Zinc Air: Highest energy density on continuous discharge; excellent shelf life (inactivated); moderate rate capability; limited shelf life when activated; flat discharge characteristic.
Uses: Hearing aids, medical monitoring instruments, pagers, and other frequent-use applications.
Silver Oxide: High gravimetric capacity; good shelf life; flat discharge characteristic.
Uses: Hearing aids, watches, photographic equipment and special electronics requiring small, high capacity batteries.
Nickel-Metal Hydride: Rechargeable; high energy density; flat discharge; very high rate performance; fast charge capability.
Uses: Portable computers, cellular phones, camcorders, and other portable consumer electronic devices.
