Toronto — Canadian singer-songwriter, Shawn Mendes is teaming up with Duracell to encourage Canadians to help thousands of children spending time in the hospital. The popular singer and recent MMVA award winner, has partnered with the brand to power smiles and support a worthy cause.
Being able to take a break and play is so important for young patients undergoing treatment or recovering from illness. The power of play and laughter can also help speed up the healing process, which is why Duracell is teaming up once again with Children’s Miracle Network and it’s 14 member hospitals as part of its ongoing ‘Powering Smiles’ program.
As part of the program, Mendes, whose album “Handwritten” recently debuted at #1 on both the Canadian and US charts, took time after his big wins at the MMVA’s to stop by The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto to perform for some special fans. “I’m excited to team up with Duracell, power smiles and give these kids a well-deserved break from everything that they have going on,” said Mendes “I’m glad to be here to support such an amazing cause, and hangout with some really cool and inspiring kids.”
In addition to partnering with Mendes, the latest edition of Duracell’s Powering Smiles program encourages Canadians to purchase packs of Duracell Quantum batteries at any retailer across Canada from June 18th to July 8th, 2015 to trigger a donation of $1 to Children’s Miracle Network, with the goal to raise $50,000.
“”This is Duracell’s eighth year of proudly donating to children’s hospitals across Canada, and with the generous support of Shawn Mendes and Canadians everywhere, we are aiming to power as many smiles as we possibly can,” said Victoria Maybee, Communications Manager, Duracell Canada. “Canadians can help by purchasing a pack of Duracell Quantum batteries at any retailer across Canada until July 8th to help raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network.”
“With the support of Canadians and partners like Duracell, we can provide the funding needed to ensure that vital programs, equipment and research devoted to children’s health continue to thrive,” said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer at Children’s Miracle Network. “It’s great to see that this program continues to power more and more smiles every year.”
